What is Jumpstarters?
A celebration of innovation, Jumpstarters 2012 is a weekend-long hackathon where teams of between 2 and 6 individuals race to define and demonstrate their next big business idea. During the weekend
When and where is Jumpstarters being held?
Jumpstarters will be held between October 12th and 14th 2012 at ilab, 80 Meiers Road Indooroopilly. Registrations close on Friday October 12th 2012.
Can our existing startup team enter?
Yes, existing teams of between 2 and 6 members can enter Jumpstarters. The idea can exist before the event, and pre-existing prototyping can work, with the caveat that you can’t yet be an operating business.
I’ve got a great idea but no team. Can I participate too?
Sure – Jumpstarters is as much about learning how to form an entrepreneural team as it is about hacking! Select the Individual Entry option when you register and answer a couple of questions – we’ll try and connect you with like-minded individuals with complementary skill sets and interests.
How much does it cost to enter?
There is a flat cost of $30 per team (2-6 individuals) to enter Jumpstarters 2012.
Are we really expected to build a successful business in a single weekend?
No, of course not – success takes time and persistence. What Jumpstarters gives you is the opportunity to spend an entire, uninterrupted weekend working as a team, with experienced mentors and coaches, to demonstrate how or why your idea will become a successful business.
In practice this means you’ll end the weekend with (at least) a viable pitch and a working prototype, as well as heaps of practical and valuable advice from our judges and mentors.
What does the winning team receive?
The winning team will receive a support package worth up to $20,000 from ilab. You’ll also stand to gain kudos, media attention, and international acclaim for your emerging business idea!
How will the winning team be selected?
The winning team will be selected by a judging panel after a final presentation on Sunday, October 14th 2012.
Are there rules? What are they?
Have a look at our terms and conditions.
Who is behind Jumpstarters 2012?
ilab is the main organiser, with support from our sponsors (scroll down to see the logos of our sponsors).
Are you looking for additional sponsors?
We’re always looking for businesses that wish to support the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Queensland. Please contact us for further information.
What is ilab?
ilab was established by the Queensland Government in 2000 to support early stage, high-tech companies through the first few years of development by building their business management capabilities, fostering mentor networks for start-up founders, creating investor ready companies, and graduating companies with increased chances of success. UQ Holdings Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of The University of Queensland (UQ), acquired ilab in 2009.
With continued funding from the State Government, ilab has become an independent division of another UQ Holdings subsidiary, UniQuest, with its own funding, staffing and management structure. ilab has entered an exciting phase with the provision of competitive grants in an accelerator model to help entrepreneurs rapidly build and validate new technologies or business concepts alongside traditional incubation services for more established companies.
